Elena's journey with her children, Liliana and Diego, is a profound illustration of resilience, hope, and the pursuit of a brighter future. Fleeing an emotionally abusive past, they found more than just shelter at Thomas House—they discovered a pathway to stability and peace. Elena's achievements, such as securing full-time employment and improving her mental health, marked significant strides toward her family's independence. Regular savings became a testament to her newfound control over her life, a reflection of the empowerment she gained.

Liliana, Elena's eldest, has demonstrated remarkable determination and growth. Balancing part-time work with her studies, she is now a thriving student at Cal State Fullerton, majoring in Psychology. Her academic success is complemented by a vibrant social life and a commitment to giving back, volunteering at Thomas House in gratitude for the support her family received.

Diego, on the other hand, has found joy and personal growth in the Youth Development Program at Thomas House. His engagement in cultural and athletic activities, like dancing Folklorico and playing soccer, highlights his positive spirit and adaptability.

On November 14, 2023, the family celebrated a significant milestone: moving into their own apartment. This step was facilitated by Thomas House and the CalOptima Housing Deposit, marking a transition into a new chapter of independence and opportunity. Their journey from adversity to a place of their own symbolizes the transformative power of support and community. The success of Elena and her children is a beacon of hope, showcasing the profound impact that compassionate, holistic support can have on families striving for a better life. It underscores the vital role of community assistance in fostering environments where families can not only survive but thrive, inspiring us all to contribute to such meaningful change.

Your donation today will support more families like Elena's!

TOGETHER, WE CAN END THE CYCLE OF HOMELESSNESS
