Unwrap the Gift of Giving: Ways to Support Thomas House Family Shelter This Holiday Season

As the holiday season approaches, our hearts resonate with the joy of giving back. In the spirit of community and compassion, we invite you to join hands with Thomas House and be a beacon of hope for unhoused and at-risk families with children.

As you continue reading, we provide seven great ways you can get involved and make a meaningful impact on the lives touched by Thomas House. From heartwarming events to simple acts of kindness, each avenue is a gateway to spreading warmth, love, and holiday cheer.

1. November Food Drive

In this season of gratitude, our food drive is not merely about filling pantries; it's about filling hearts. As we continue through the month of November, we invite you to donate non-perishable food items for our November Food Drive. Your donations will fill the pantry, ensuring that families have access to nutritious meals throughout the year.

Use the hashtag #THFS_NFD on social media to showcase your contributions and why you choose to support Thomas House.

2. Toy Drive

Bring smiles to the faces of our youth at Thomas House by participating in the Toy Drive from December 1st – 15th. Donate new, unwrapped toys to make the holidays brighter for our families.

Spread the word by sharing our Toy Drive across social media, workplace bulletin boards, and with friends and family. Every share is a step towards creating a ripple effect of kindness. Use the hashtag #THFS_ToyDrive in your post & stories.

3. Adopt-a-Family

Our Adopt-a-Family program is back, and it's bursting with warmth, joy, and the spirit of giving! Ensure our families have the things they need and want for the holidays, creating a special and memorable experience for everyone involved.

4. Holiday Appeal

Consider making a monetary donation to our annual Holiday Appeal to help us reach our $110,000 goal and support the shelter's ongoing programs and services. Your financial contribution helps provide a stable environment for unhoused and at-risk families and contributes to their journey towards independence and self-sufficiency.

Join us for our kick-off event on December 5th, 2023 at 6 pm to launch this heartwarming season of giving! It's an opportunity to come together as a community and make a difference that truly matters. We can't wait to celebrate with you! Click here to RSVP!

5. Volunteer Opportunities

Share your time and talents by volunteering. Whether it's helping with holiday events, organizing activities for the children, contributing to general building maintenance, or participating in our Serving Supper opportunities on November 16th, December 7th, 14th, and 21st, your involvement makes a meaningful impact. These unique Serving Supper events allow you to provide or prepare dinner for all of our families (approximately 60 people) and facilitate activities for the children (approximately 45) while their parents attend a mandatory parenting class on Thursday nights.

6. Host a Fundraising Event

Consider hosting your own event to support the shelter. Whether it's a cozy virtual gathering, a thrilling game night, or a drive, the possibilities are endless. Every dollar raised goes directly to providing support for those who need it most.

7. Create a Holiday Care Package

Get creative, embrace the holiday spirit, and spread cheer to our incredible families. Assemble care packages with essential items like toiletries, warm clothing, gift cards and a personalized note. These thoughtful packages can bring comfort and joy to families during the holiday season.

This holiday season, let's come together to make a positive difference in the lives of those at Thomas House Family Shelter. Each act of kindness, no matter how big or small, contributes to creating a brighter and more joyful holiday season for everyone involved. Embrace the spirit of giving and unwrap the gift of making a meaningful impact.
