2021 Autumn Reflections Virtual Gala
"35 Years of Empowerment"
Honoring the Legacy of Mary and Bernie Selz
The night of giving took place on October 2, 2021 which included a delicious pre-packaged 3 course dinner, silent auction, music, and an inspirational program looking back into the history of Thomas House over the past 35 years. That evening we honored our founders, Mary and Bernie Selz, and the legacy they built.
HONORING MARY & BERNIE SELZ
After seeing the increasing number of families experiencing homelessness in their community, Mary and Bernie Selz knew they had to do something. On multiple occasions, they accepted homeless mothers and their children into their own home.
In 1986, with one magnanimous thought, the support of their friends, and an agreement with an apartment complex owner, the Selz' rented a three-bedroom apartment unit to house families, officially establishing the beginning of Thomas House Family Shelter.
What started as a single apartment unit eventually progressed into the ownership of two properties, expanding our impact to 22 apartment units to house families experiencing homelessness and their children
