Mary E Selz

Forever in our hearts

With profound sadness and celebration of life, Thomas House Family Shelter announces the passing of our beloved co-founder, Mary Selz, who transitioned on December 20th, 2023 in Garden Grove, California. Mary Selz's visionary leadership and relentless passion have been the cornerstone of our mission since 1986.

Mary & Bernie Selz established Thomas House Family Shelter with a deep commitment to empowering families with children who were at-risk of or experiencing homelessness to remain together and provide them with resources and tools they needed to become independent and self-sufficient. Through their extraordinary vision and dedication, they inspired a movement that has made a lasting impact on countless lives.

Mary’s belief in our mission and her unwavering support fueled our initiatives and inspired our team. She was a pillar of encouragement and wisdom, always ready to lend her guidance and support where needed. The impact of her support and belief in our cause cannot be overstated; it was a driving force that enabled us to grow and succeed in ways we could not have imagined.

As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate her remarkable life and contributions. Thomas House Family Shelter remains committed to continuing her mission, honoring her memory, and upholding her legacy by persisting in our work with even greater dedication.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Mary's family, friends, and to everyone in our community who was touched by Mary Selz’s extraordinary life. In this moment of loss, we find comfort in knowing that Mary's spirit will forever guide us as we continue to strive towards a world that both her and Bernie envisioned.
